The United Nations Population Fund announced, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, today, Sunday, the launch of its virtual ambassador, defending the rights of teenage girls, “ Maryam ”.
The launch of “Maryam” comes as part of the efforts made by the United Nations Population Fund to realize the rights of adolescent girls to enjoy a safe life, access to education and health in all stages of their lives.
This new initiative also comes to emphasize the support of the United Nations Population Fund and its standing by the rights of girls, including the right to obtain accurate information and services related to sexual and reproductive health.
Maryam, whose birth will be announced, is one of 40 million girls in the Arab region. Maryam decided to devote her life and time to demanding the realization of her rights and all teenage girls like her.
In addition, she is a 15-year-old girl from the Arab States region, but she does not carry the nationality of a specific country, and works with the United Nations Population Fund to highlight and address the needs and challenges facing girls, while promoting girls’ empowerment and realizing their human rights.
The United Nations Population Fund has chosen to launch its virtual ambassador at this time. In conjunction with the United Nations celebrations of the 75th anniversary of her birth.
